Soccer Field Replacement
Cuyahoga County, Ohio
Partners was tasked with providing surveying, engineering, and environmental services to design and permit new soccer fields on a site that contained existing soccer fields that were constantly flooding and on top of an old landfill in Cuyahoga County.
The site was flat and did not have proper drainage, limiting use of the fields during Spring soccer practices and tournaments. Redesigning the storm water system was complicated by the fact that the soccer field was above a formerly closed landfill and traditional underground drainage systems could not be used.
Our initial scope of work was to provide a topographic survey of the existing fields and then provide a preliminary field layout, parking and utility improvements, and grading for the project. Due to the fact that the site sits on an old landfill, Partners also had to integrate the requirements of the Ohio EPA permitting obligations and safety consideration into the design and permitting for the construction work. As part of the preliminary design, Partners recommended raising the grade of the fields to allow proper drainage of the site and provide an appropriate cap on top of the landfill. Partners also performed soil testing and evaluation of a borrow site nearby for use as the cover material.
