Former Clauss Cutlery Redevelopment Project

Covenant Not-to-Sue Issued

Partners authored a successful Round 7 CORF Grant for the City of Fremont to conduct multiple activities at the former Clauss Cutlery Facility. Partners served as the Certified Professional and our work included the preparation of specifications and contractor bidding for over $4,000,000 worth of remedial activities. These services included asbestos abatement, biostimulation remediation, installation of a subsurface depressurization system (SSDS), oversight of building demolition, remediation contractor services, trench recovery system installation and waste disposal (universal solid and hazardous wastes).

Partners also managed environmental consulting activities, including remediation system design, asbestos abatement specifications and oversight, remedial action plan (RAP)preparation, Ohio Voluntary Action Program (VAP) No Further Action (NFA) preparation, closure of hazardous waste units and underground storage tank (UST) closures. The solvent cleanup involved the innovative use of soy bean oil to dechlorinate trichloroethene and its daughter compounds in soil and groundwater at the Property. The project is highly visible, as nearby residential properties surround the Property and Ohio EPA has been actively involved in the project due to previously settled environmental litigation. The NFA was submitted to the Ohio EPA in September 2013 and the Covenant Not-to-Sue was issue in September 2014.
